| Since Zhen expelled the Dutch, salt industry had been an important industry on the southwest coast in Taiwan. Beautiful salterns was once the collective memory of Taiwanese people. Due the high cost of production, TAIYEN had to close all its salterns in May, 2002. Salt industry thus became a part of history.
Cigu Saltern was the youngest saltern in the history of salt industry in Taiwan. Managed by Japanese companies and the Nationalist government, it became the largest saltern, and was once an important provider of industrial salt. Faced with the cruel fact that salt industry diminished sharply, we are dedicated to preserving the historical materials of Taiwan’s 338-year salt industry. Besides investing a great amount of money and human resources to build a Taiwan Salt Museum, we also used traditional materials in salt industry to design this park. We look forward to your coming very much.
In this park there are two SaltMountains: the highest peak of SaltMountain, and the north peak of Salt Mountain, which used to be the piling space of Cigu Saltern. Measuring 20 meters (7-floor tall), the highest peak was once the last place to dry the salt of Cigu Saltern, piled with about 60 thousand tons of salt. Over a long period of time, the peak have been naturally crystallized with the dust in the air to form a rigid surface. Looking like a giant rock standing in a desert, it has become the landmark of Cigu. The salt on the north peak is from western Australia, produced by one of our overseas joint salterns. As the material of our salt shatter factory, it is snowy white. The shape of the mountain changes as the salt flows. Stepping to the top, you will have an unforgettable experience to feel as if you were in a snowy northern country.
In addition, we built all kinds of equipments in our park, like traditional earth, “tile tray formation” salterns, fan-shaped salterns, salt houses, salt statues, and equipments used “salt element”. We also have “Du Du Trains” to take you around the park. Professional narrators will explain everything you want to know to make sure you grasp the beauty of salterns. Our exclusively designed “Salt Can DIY”, together with water boats, water-collecting wheel machines, Beach Cars and Go-Kart, will definitely help you enjoy the pleasure in this trip.
The history of salt industry in Taiwan is also the history of development in Taiwan. This park is featured with history, industry, culture, art and ecology. Once you are here on SaltMountain, with the thousand-hectare saltern in your eyesight, you will be reminded of the history of our forefathers’ hard work, and find yourself enjoying in this delightful mood!
